Silent Horror

Mary Pickford once said, “I never had sympathy for those who wanted produce ‘art’ pictures, and ignore the public. These weird ideas that appeal only to a minority — they’re not for me.” (Motion Picture Herald, February 17, 1940.) With that said, perhaps she wouldn't enjoy the two well-received silent horror films that I produced but maybe you will.

Garden of Souls (2019) - In the tradition of such classics as Nosferatu and Haxan, and with a dash of early American film, comes Garden of Souls. A horror photoplay that harkens back to the old tinted silent films of yesteryear. Partly filmed on-location in Hollywood before Hollywood -- Fort Lee, NJ. Dedicated to film pioneers D. W. Griffith and Mary Pickford.

The Thousand Steps (2020) - The Thousand Steps is a short silent horror film loosely based on Dante Alighieri's Inferno. Stylistically influenced by the films of yesteryear -- particularly the films of D.W. Griffith and European silent horror (Nosferatu, Destiny, Haxan, The Phantom Carriage, etc.) -- the film makes use of period cinematography, editing, and effects and incorporates the necessary dust & scratches to recreate that feeling of watching a long lost film from a century ago. It also contains many hidden and not-so-hidden nods to Mary Pickford including the use of several filming locations from her films (Fanchon the Cricket; What the Daisy Said; So Near, Yet So Far; The Narrow Road; To Save Her Soul; etc.) The Thousand Steps was the Barrymore Film Center 2021 Short Film Festival Jury Prize winner.
