Mary Pickford (and others) Oneida Spoon - 1925

These silver-plated teaspoons were manufactured by the Oneida Community (which has a colorful history itself, beginning as a religious commune or cult and becoming a major dinnerware company) and were part of a very successful late-1925 newspaper promotion. Bring some quantity of coupons clipped from the newspaper to where newspapers were sold, along with a small fee, and get one of twelve different spoons depending on the week. They were also available by mail via similar means plus shipping.

Advertising at the time noted, "The Mary Pickford autographed silver spoon is the product of the makers of the Community Plate. Only Community's skilled craftsmen can produce such charming and useful creation as this novel spoon--bearing the portrait and signature of Mary Pickford." If we are to believe the imagery used on said advertising, the relief of Mary on the spoon is apparently based on a portrait by Strauss Peyton.

In total, spoons included in the collection are: Marion Davies, Douglas Fairbanks (2x,) May Murray, Ramon Novarro, Mary Pickford (3x,) Gloria Swanson, Norma Talmadge, Lois Wilson. There is also one Athens Silver co. Mary Fuller spoon.
